Experiencing mental health issues can be scary. When veterans go through difficult emotions, they can't think clearly. Instead, they are taken over by fear, anxiety, anger, embarrassment, depression, and helplessness. Veterans often operate on what's known as "lizard brain." This means rational thinking is no longer present. The veteran then needs to focus on getting grounded and calm to make good decisions in a time of need.
We've taken the term "Embrace the S.U.C.K." and developed an acronym for veterans to remember during difficult times. It's a way for veterans to understand what's happening at that moment and have a plan of action to find safety.
Stop what you're doing
Recognize that something's not right.
Understand that your thoughts are normal
For people who have gone through similar experiences..
Change your scenery
Remove yourself from the situation and call a friend.
Know that you are loved
Don't fix a temporary problem with a permanent solution.
Your generosity fuels unforgettable experiences for veterans and their families. Every donation helps us bring healing and adventure to those who have served. We deeply appreciate your support in making our mission possible!
